34th BCA National 8-Ball Championships (Las Vegas, NV)
This was great pool trip. I brought my wife down to enjoy Las Vegas, for the first time, but to also watch me play in the singles. We arrived on Friday, checked into the Mirage, went out for a great dinner at the Wynn and watch the Le Reve show. We crashed hard that night and got up at 6:30am to head over to the Rivera. I played my first match at 8:00am. It started off very slow and I let him get ahead by turning over two key games in the middle of the set. The only game he broke and ran-out was the final game we played; he got me 4-5. I had the rest of the day off, we hung out at the pool, had some good meals and called it an early night. The next day, I played again at 8:00am. I played much better and had some great outs to win 5-2. My next match was at 11:00am. I played a player from Canada who shot at the same level as me. We went back and forth all the way to the hill. I was shooting the 8-ball and knew the angle of the cue ball was putting me down table coming close to a scratch in the corner. This was not an issue since there was a ball blocking the path. I put some left on the cue ball, but it scratched in the side. OMG! This was insane! Everyone watching could not believe the angle it scratched. This was the end of my singles tourney. The next day, my wife left, I moved over to Circus Circus and played in some minis with my buddy Curtis. I kept on loosing on the hill in everything I entered. I knew it was not my day. My buddy Mike showed up, we caught up playing for beers; good times. This was probably the best pool I played all week. When the team event started, I requested to be put on another team since there was some animosity with me being on Curtis team from some other teammates. I transferred over to a weaker team and played well. I played eight games. I won five and lost two of them by run-outs. Our team got knocked out, bang-bang. It was a fun trip, but nothing to really to report on. At least my wife said she would go to Las Vegas again to watch me play pool.
